3:56 AM, December 31, 1983
21 years later, I'm still awake at odd hours, but this time I'm updating my blog. I'm a geek.

Happy New Year!
Happy New Year, kids. How does 2005 compare to 2004? So far it seems to be about the same, but there's an odd shortage of DVD-R's. Anyone else notice that?

Internet Withdrawl
This is what I used as my desktop picture for a couple weeks while we waited for DSL to be installed at the apartment. I just hope I don't have to pull it out again when we switch to cable.

Stuck with the Rejects
After looking at my grades for this semester, I started thinking about how school and I never really got along. I think about this a lot, actually. Anyway, I noticed a funny coincidence about how I am somehow always stuck with people who are being punished. Of course, by "always," I mean "twice." Not only was I assigned to a dorm where they sent kids who were kicked out of the nicer dorms, I also went to a high school that took in a student mid-year because he had been kicked out of another school.

21
I'm 21.

500 Entries Of Awesome
Skier Wysz (6:18:36 PM): i have 499 blog entries

Imagine
[[[ Here you should imagine a picture of a Wysz who is 20 years older, with a small scar on his left cheek, wearing a black t-shirt that has "Moon" written next to a platinum Apple logo. ]]]

Using state-of-the-art digital imaging technology, extensive research, flow charts, psychic powers, and even some good old-fashioned police work, I was able to create what I'm told is an amazingly accurate representation of what I will look like when I'm 40. I think I've aged pretty well, with minimal wrinkles and a full head of hair. The scar on my face is actually a pretty cool reminder of the time I had to beat up that ninja, and I'm sure it will be a fun ice-breaker at parties. It's also nice to see that we have finally started populating the Moon, Apple is still going strong, and I'm still a big geek.

Note: I was actually going to make the picture, but I'm busy*.

Merry Christmas from INHD2

On Christmas Day, I was testing our Pronto remote, which I had reprogrammed for the family room since the Crestron took its previous job downstairs. I noticed that INHD2 was showing footage of a fireplace. I opened up the menu, which let me know that from 7 AM to 3 PM on Christmas, they would be broadcasting "Yule Log," with "footage of a burning log" as the only description. We left it on because it was funny, and it actually worked out well for me because I couldn't see the real fire from where I was sitting.

This reminds me of Carroll's Jewelers in Doylestown, which has a flat screen TV running footage of a fish tank. At first glance, it looks real. In fact, some people never figure out that it's not. (Sorry to break it to you if you were one of the believers.)

Pilot + Rum != Comforting Sight
Evan (2:18:05 AM): just got back, i hate us airways, never fly them, ever
Evan (2:19:21 AM): the 2nd flight was 1 hr late, then bags took 2 hrs, first flight, the pilot had to be looked for, found buying rum in duty free shop, horrible

Merry Christmas Eve
Merry Christmas Eve, kids. One of these years you people will have to learn to stick around until at least after New Year's. Good seeing you again, though. Stay awesome.

Merry Christmas
Merry Christmas.

Mediocre Entertainment
Ocean's 12 and Meet the Fockers. Two disappointing sequels I've seen this Christmas season. But, if you're bored, they're not horrible.

Today in D-Town...
I was in the bank today.

But that's not the whole story. Across from the bank is a Burger King.

But wait, there's more! Inside the bank was a Burger King employee, making a deposit.

But it gets better. The amount on the deposit slip was different than the amount of cash he brought, so the employee called his boss and asked which amount he wanted to deposit.

But. He talked to his boss via his wireless Burger King headset, which still worked inside the bank. He eventually gave up on the fuzzy connection and had his boss call the bank's phone, but it was still funny.

I'm awesome.

Site Stats
Skier Wysz (12:23:51 AM): i've been pretty good at cutting back on the updates recently
Skier Wysz (12:24:08 AM): i only have about one per day now
anthonut (12:24:38 AM): i've noticed. there is an inverse correlation between the number of updates and your distance from baltimore.

Defying Political Correctness
I'm so awesome. I went around saying, "Merry Christmas," today instead of, "Happy holidays."

This Is Actually A Compliment
royb007 (10:58:17 PM): your site is really good for people who want to waste time and/or lose the will to live

Most of you won't get this, plus you kinda had to be there, but it's my blog so:
Me: Where's Julie?
Lauren: [Rubbing her head. Actually she was adjusting her headband, but it looked like she was rubbing the top of her head.] Make a Wish.
Me: [After obviously thinking of and making a wish in my head] Okay.
Lauren: No, that's where she is.
Me: Oohhh.

Happy birthday, Bill.

By the way...

I'm Just Too Awesome
Skier Wysz (10:43:49 AM): i want to know why apple didn't give me a free g5 for being first in line
DanJDavies0001 (10:44:28 AM): perhaps they thought you where too awesome
DanJDavies0001 (10:44:42 AM): and would drop it as you havnt read the instructions on how to carry a g5!
DanJDavies0001 (10:44:55 AM): and they did not want to damage you awesomeness
Skier Wysz (10:45:26 AM): hmm, that is a pretty good explanation
DanJDavies0001 (10:45:32 AM): blog that.

Skier Wysz (10:45:40 AM): yes sir

Current Status
9 AM: Psych Final

Later today...
- Make master of film and turn it in.
- Go home.

Sorry about the lack of updates; I've been busy finishing up the semester and camping out in front of an Apple Store. Also, my unreliable DSL connection makes any online activity frustrating. Fortunately, I'll be home later today with a rock-solid cable connection.

Later kids.

Whodunnit?
ODOR OF GASMSE Library, M-Level, Dec. 3:32 am. MSEL security guards and Hopkins Officers investigated a gas-like odor. The odor dissipated and the source could not be found.

Fringe Benefits
csvroomfondel (10:19:52 AM): it was extremely easy

Skier Wysz (10:20:47 AM): i'm very awesome
csvroomfondel (10:22:19 AM): being correct is just sort of a benefit of being awesome

Skier Wysz (3:10:03 AM): thanks

Skier Wysz (3:11:26 AM): i'm drinking out of a plastic ziplock container
Skier Wysz (3:11:48 AM): I JUST SPILLED SOUP ON MY SHIRT
Skier Wysz (3:11:52 AM): MY APPLE STORE SHIRT
Skier Wysz (3:11:55 AM): LIMITED EDITION
parec02 (3:12:16 AM): but it must have come from a can at some point, and i think that if i were to look in my pantry, i would find that each can had a warning against typing with one hand while holding soup in the other
parec02 (3:12:48 AM): if only you had heeded the soup can's warning, your shirt would still fetch millions on ebay
Skier Wysz (3:13:06 AM): i would never sell it
Skier Wysz (3:13:09 AM): NEVER
Skier Wysz (3:13:30 AM): this is a good song
parec02 (3:14:41 AM): you know, since it was "the wysz" who was drinking the soup when it spilled on the shirt, the shirt may actually have increased in value
parec02 (3:14:48 AM): i think you should get it appraised

parec02 (2:21:32 AM): i keep trying to voice that sound you spelled out, but all i can get is the sound of a baby's gurgling noises, is that what you were going for?
Skier Wysz (2:22:11 AM): no, you read it incorrectly
parec02 (2:22:35 AM): i can kind of get it to sound like a choking noise
Skier Wysz (2:22:41 AM): that works

88-72, Cincinnati
Skier Wysz (10:05:19 PM): looks like another loss for vandy 88-72
anthonut (10:06:12 PM): hmm, gotta give Ted a hard time. They need to spruce up. Although they lost to some tough teams last year. but they need a couple victories soon. SEC play starts soon and that will be very tough.
Skier Wysz (10:06:45 PM): yeah they're not off to the same kind of start they had last year
Skier Wysz (10:07:06 PM): and no need for me to give ted a hard time, he pouts like a 4 year old girl all on his own after a loss

Slacker Logic
parec02 (2:19:00 AM): maybe the more i sleep, the more i will retain from my books in that pile across the room
parec02 (2:19:05 AM): the brain works like that, right?

Injustice
Baltimore is such a dirt city. I parked my car legally on the street, where there were no signs indicating that I couldn't park there. I came back a little over a day later, and they had put up temporary NO PARKING signs, and given me (as well as several other cars parked on the street) a $27 ticket. How hard would it be for them to give a warning a couple days in advance?

Also, it's usually impossible to find parking on the street I live on, which is why I only go shopping at night, when there's a better chance I will return to find a spot. When I can't park on this street, there is one not too far away that I use as my reserve, since it almost always has something available. I pulled by it the other night, looking for a spot, and saw that now only residents can park on that street. I think it took me another 20 minutes to find a space.

At least I'll be home in less than a week. I'm not staying in this place for one second after I graduate.

...
ShkenBlke2 (11:26:07 PM): i did not think th@ buffy prep was british, ugh

Photogram
I didn't do a terrific scan, so the color (yes, i know it's black and white) is off just a bit, and the smokey thing at the bottom (actually just Saran wrap) doesn't look as mysterious as it does in the print.

65-75.

People: CLICK AND DRAG on the pictures.

The Escalator
When I was in the mall with Ted a few months ago (I can't remember why), I noticed something about escalators. The escalator is an invention that improved regular stairs, right? Or is it a more efficient elevator? In either case, the escalator takes a step backwards from its predecessor. Elevators and staircases go both up and down (and more), but the escalator only goes one way. Who would try to invent a one-way staircase?

Oh, and:
ShkenBlke2 (3:11:37 PM): u know, if ur talking about escalators, u need 2 make sum kinda mallrats reference 4 me and ted 2 enjoy and chuckle @

Verizon DSL Sucks
Got disconnected again tonight. Baltimore is such a dirt city, and my criminal justice professor is mean, and will probably fail me. Meanwhile, I'm getting A++++'s in the classes that I care about, so whatever.

Skier Wysz (4:16:16 PM): well i actually thought you did it on purpose, as i had specifically mentioned in my blog that inappropriate apostrophes annoy me
Skier Wysz (4:18:08 PM): as one comment on slashdot read, "contrary to common belief, it does NOT signify that an "S" is coming!"

Really, I'm Going On Hiatus This Time
I will be without Internet access until Sunday night, so please don't expect any updates until then. Also, if you need to get in touch with me, you must call my cell. I won't read my email until Sunday night. Have a great weekend kids.

The hiatus starts..... NOW!
Is it sad that I have to announce a blogging hiatus when I will only be away for part of the weekend? No, it's not. It's awesome.

Win!
The Common Dores won their last game, and Ted actually did well, if I'm reading this "Box Score" thing correctly. Two points, six rebounds, and a whopping 22 minutes. Good show, loser.

Gilman Elevator
Gilman Hall is one of the strangest buildings I've ever experienced. My first semester here, I spent hours walking around in circles trying to find classrooms in this labyrinth. There are offices located within offices and hallways that look like the combination of a cage and a tunnel, like something you would see in the innards of a ship. The outer hallways are complete circles on a few floors, but on other ones just lead to more staircases. If you take the wrong staircase to one of the upper floors, you won't get to where you need to be. They also leave the front doors open 24 hours a day now, but still lock down these cage things at night in one of the staircases, which is completely pointless because you can walk around to the other side from the outer hallway. Some windows overlook the roof of the building, which is weird, and to get to any exterior door, no matter which floor you're on, you have to go up or down stairs. Most of my classes are in Gilman, and this is my third year here, and I still have no idea which end I'm going to pop out when I leave the building.

Anyway, it was recently brought to my attention that the elevator, besides being extremely slow, is also confusing. The arrows point left and right. I thought elevators went up and down. And left and right probably represent the opposite directions you would assume. When traveling to a greater-numbered floor, the left arrow lights up in red. When moving to a lesser-numbered floor, the right arrow is illuminated with a green light.

I'm not making this up. Come to JHU, ask which building the bookstore is in, and try it yourself.

One Day In One Image

Here's an obligatory plug for DVTime Studios if you want QuickTime VR panoramas created for you or your business. We do interactive panoramas, which means that you can click on locations in the image to go to another location.

This is incredibly geeky, but:
Today I talked to Stormy, the guy who was first in line at the London Apple Store. He contacted me. This may be hard for most of my readers to understand, but he is like a celebrity to Apple geeks. Okay this post has to end.

(Not) Stealing Music
I don't download music illegally. I buy it on CD or purchase it from iTunes. Before iTunes, it was only CD's. I never had Napster on my computer. Still, I never gave anyone a hard time if they downloaded illegally. It wasn't my problem. Often, when people (mostly my age) find out that I purchase music from iTunes, they can't believe it, and ask me why. "Because it's not wrong" is usually not a valid answer. Why do I have to feel awkward about doing what should be the norm? If someone has to be mean about it, shouldn't I be the one making them feel bad?

400th Post!
Wysz's Thoughts v.Awesome has now reached 400 entries. My previous blog, which crashed one year and two days ago, went out with a whopping 518 entries after less than two months of existence.

400 posts later, and I'm as awesome as ever.

I'm Mr. Wysz!
I love being able to answer the phone, and saying, "Yes, this is Mr. Wysz," when they ask if Mr. or Mrs. Wysz is available. I talked to Comcast tonight.

Don't worry, it's not another panorama. It's just text.

What's Missing From This Picture?

I think this is the first week that nobody is a Systems Analyst. Am I right? Why would they change the tradition? What happened?

It's December!
But I'm in the middle of editing so I'll catch you kids later.

Very Plausible Story

Skier Wysz (9:06:40 PM): haha what did it say
eightman1984 (9:07:03 PM): well, it seems to be thanking me that my computer broke...so they could justify employing people to repair it
Skier Wysz (9:07:33 PM): what?
eightman1984 (9:07:36 PM): yeah
eightman1984 (9:07:52 PM): its like thank you for choosing apple to repair your apple computer
Skier Wysz (9:08:07 PM): oh
eightman1984 (9:08:48 PM): but it lists steve jobs home and cell phone number, just in case anything goes wrong again, or you want to tell him what a fine job they did in repairing it

Skier Wysz (8:34:51 PM): about what
