That’s a dealbreaker
My initial reaction to the iPad:
Looks cool; I can definitely see myself using it to surf the web on my couch. But I really don’t understand having to pay an extra $130 just so I have the option to add 3G service later.

Agreed, looks cool. However, I don’t see myself using it to surf the web on my couch. That’s what my MacBook is for. With a physical keyboard for typing. But maybe I’m missing the point. Am I?

I think the browsing I would use it for would be read-only stuff where I’m not even actively searching, such as catching up on Google Reader or email. Hulu would be great, but I’m assuming this device doesn’t have Flash. And now that I think about it, the kitchen may be a more likely location than my couch, where I also already have a laptop.
In any case, I don’t think I’ll be buying this time around. When they cut the cost in half for Christmas, I may be interested.
