DMC

Abstract:
Attempts to use the DMC's batch slide scanner.

Body:
For the past three days, I've been going to the Digital Media Center trying to scan slides of my second photo assignment. The first assignment, which was only two weeks earlier, scanned with no problem. Here's what I've been through:

Attempt #1:
"Someone else is using the scanner. They have it reserved for the rest of the night."

Attempt #2:
The scanner is being a pain, so it takes me about 20 minutes to get started. With about ten slides to go, the DMC closes, and I cancel the scan. I can't save what I scanned on CD, because the program imported the scans as TIFF instead of JPEG like I had set it to.

Attempt #3:
"Someone else is using that computer. Try the computer right next to it."

"You mean the one that's not hooked up to the scanner and doesn't have any scanning software?"

"Yes."

Attempt #4:
"The scanner's not working. Can you help me?"

"Well, you probably know more about this than me."

That's a surprise!

Looks like I'll be manually scanning each slide with my own scanner. At least this was the last assignment with slide film.
