If You Plan on Requiring Emergency Assistance on the JHU Campus, Please Memorize this List For Your Safety.Abstract: I think they're trying to limit liability by
posting this. Oh, and the Krieger Mind/Brain Institute alarm continues to go off
daily (sometimes multiple times). It's been doing this at least since I started
going to school here. Sounds like they need to work a little faster on fixing
the problems that they report.
Body: You know how on every college campus tour, they
always mention some sort of blue-light emergency system on campus that has some
crazy response time like 30 seconds or less? Well, keep in mind that they might
not always work. I read the daily security
report a few times a week, and have noticed that over the
course of this semester, the list of problems with our system has
become increasingly long. I wish I had a listing of all of the phones, so I
could find out what percentage of them have problems. Who knows, it may even be
100% by now. Below is the list from today's
report:
EMERGENCY PHONE PROBLEMS – Telecommunications has been notified for repairs (parts on order): • Garland Lot (near Clark Hall) – Out-of-order, does not call to the security office. • Macaulay/Mergenthaler – does not call to the security office. • West Gate Garage (upper level east) – does not call to the security office. • Levering/Garland Plaza – disconnects prematurely after calling the security office, no siren and the flashing beacon not operative. • Levering/Gilman Plaza – disconnects prematurely after calling the security office. • Shriver Hall (rear) – flashing beacon not operative during daylight hours. • MSE Library (north side) – disconnects prematurely after calling the security office and does not transmit the caller’s voice. • East Gate(MSEL Circle) – disconnects prematurely after calling the security office • New Chemistry Building (east side) – disconnects prematurely after calling the security office. • Stony Run Lot – flashing beacon not operative. • Barn Theater (hillside) – disconnects prematurely after calling the security office and the flashing beacon is not operative. • Bloomberg Center – no blue night light. • Hall of Fame Lot – does not transmit the caller’s voice. • Homewood Apts.
