Quality

Abstract:
iTunes Music Store. Quality songs only.

Body:
Rock 'n' Roll McDonald's is currently fluctuating between 9th and 10th on the Greek store.

After Bill suggested that Willis's songs may be "formulaic," I remembered what I did when William Hung was #1 on the US store. I went to Apple's Music Event stream from a little over a year ago (October 16th, 2003) and went about 11 minutes into Steve's speech.

"By the end of this month, we'll have 400,000 quality tracks. This number could have easily been much higher if we wanted to let in every song. But we realized that record companies, the music companies, do a great service. They edit. Did you know that if you and I record a song, for 40 bucks we can pay a few of the services to get it on their site through some intermediaries? We can be on Rhapsody, we can be on all these other guys for 40 bucks. But we don't want to let that stuff on our site. And so we've had to edit it. And these are 400,000 quality songs."

Here's a clip, in case Apple's stream is taken down. They don't link to it on the Apple Events QuickTime page anymore, so it might be on its way out.

In other music news, the first person to give me both a U2 iPod (looks really cool) and an iPod Photo (60 GB model, please), wins!
